Barn Close Recreation Ground is open for visitors to use the Trim Trail and play equipment, and enjoy relaxing at the picnic tables. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. See the entrance sign for more information.

Parking in Barn Close is restricted.

Coming by car? Please use the Village Hall Car Park. Coming by bike? The bike rack is immediately to the left of the entrance.

Health and Safety

• We have had a lot of rain, so be careful on the field.
• Please avoid the Queen's Green Canopy trees as they get established.
• Read the 'how to use' information next to the Trim Trail equipment before using it.
• Golf holes; please do not use these at present.
• General and dog waste: please use the bin at the entrance

'The Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to "Plant a Tree for the Jubilee"'. With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC encourages planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen's leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.

Trees are being planted by a myriad of people, from individuals to community groups, to commemorate the Queen's Jubilee year.

Barn Close recreation ground is the site for Quarndon's contribution to the Canopy. The 'Wild Wood' selection of hardy native species can tolerate exposed sites and help to dry up wet areas. As visitors to the recreation ground know, there are still some areas that would appreciate a little drying out!

You will see tiny hazel, crab apple, downy birch, hawthorn and goat willow trees arranged between the old goal posts and the fence to form a glade at the top of the field. Small groups of saplings are dotted about to provide welcome blossom and shade in years to come. Transparent tree protectors and canes are in place for support and protection. The photo shows volunteers relaxing after a busy morning tree planting.
